Does anyone have experience/knowledge of ovulating early after triggering with Ovidrel?
We finally got to try an IUI this time, after my first two cycles produced two big follicles on my right side (where I have a blocked tube). This time I had two on the right again (each 17mm), but also a 19mm on the left. The RE predicted that all three would release.
I gave myself the Ovidrel injection that night (Thursday) around 8 p.m. The RE said I should ovulate 36-40 hours later.
The next day, on Friday afternoon, I felt a sharp, brief pain in my left ovary. I was concerned that it might be an ovluation pain, but I've had so many twinges and discomforts that I didn't worry too much. But the next morning, the morning of my IUI, my temperature had already jumped. It's true that I didn't sleep very well the night before the IUI, since I was anxious about oversleeping. So it's possible that could have caused my temp to be higher.
My cervix was still very soft and open, which reassured me a little bit.
During the IUI I asked the doctor if it was possible that I had ovulated the day before, and he said that Ovidrel is very dependable in causing ovulation 36-40 hours after trigger- so he didn't believe it was possible that I had.
Still- could he be wrong? I hate to think that we did this for nothing.

Hi there - I did an IUI cycle in August and I think I had a similar situation. It is hard to be sure if you weren't doing OPKs and didn't sleep well that night, but it *is* possible in my opinion. I think I ovulated 24 hours after trigger, and missed my window for the IUI. So, this cycle, I have requested my IUI to be scheduled 24 hours after trigger, because too early is better than too late. I will also have sex the night before the trigger, the day of the trigger and the day after the IUI, just to be safe.
Thanks, Rebecca. I use the Clearblue Easy fertility monitor and I got peak fertility the morning after I triggered- but I figured that was natural since I had given myself the shot. We did have sex the night of the trigger, but not the day after, per the RE's instructions. Ugh.
If you had sex the night of the trigger then I wouldn't worry!! You had good timing! I am crossing my fingers for you.
Hi there, I just want to chime in and tell you what my RE said. He said (almost) the same thing as yours: The Ovidrel is extremely reliable about timing O; O will happen 36-44 (not 36-40 like yours said) hours after Ovidrel injection. He told me the action of Ovidrel is extremely predictable and there's very little variation.
I think if you O'd earlier it would be because your body was ready to O and they mistimed the trigger/IUI and not because the Ovidrel caused you to O less than 36 hours later. I personally think it's very probable your temp jumped because you didn't sleep well. And like a pp said, you BD'd on trigger night so if the IUI was mistimed (which I think there's a good chance it wasn't) all may not be lost.
I wish you the best of luck!!

So glad to hear you were able to get a follie on the left this time! I used Ovidrel for my two IUIs and Novarel for my IVF (not sure what the difference is, I think they are both HCG). I didn't think about the timing very much for the IUIs but I was very worried I would ovulate early for the IVF when I showed up for the egg retrieval. They timed it exactly 36 hours after my trigger and they even had me wait an extra day before the trigger to give the small ones a chance to catch up. All 5 ended up maturing and were ready to be retrieved. So I would say their insistence on the 36 hour timeframe shows that they are confident in the trigger causing ovulation in that time.
Thanks, all! I appreciate the encouragement. Sammy- it's entirely possible that the RE said "36-44 hours" and I just misunderstood. I was a little preoccupied, what with the speculum and the catheter and whatnot.
I had the opposite issue last cycle, my temp didn't spike until 3 days after the IUI (four days after the trigger shot). This cycle I brought up my concerns to my RE that maybe we did the IUI too early and she said the same thing as your doc, that Ovidrel has been very closely studied and that it consistently triggers O 36-44 hours after the shot. So in my case it seemed like maybe my temps were just slow to rise. In yours, hopefully it was the poor sleep. GL!

Hi there, I just wanted to chime in. I did an IUI cycle with Femara and Gonal F back in August and we did our Ovidrel trigger 36 hours before IUI. We also BD the evening of the trigger & evening of IUI. I ended up getting PG from that cycle with twins (actually was a triplet pregnancy but third sac was measuring way behind). Unfortunately we lost both about 10 days ago at 8 weeks - heartbeats had stopped and development was a little behind. I agree that the Ovidrel is usually very predictable at pinpointing O 36-40 hrs after but it's also good to BD on your own just to cover your bases.

Thank you, Tullyar and Kittymommy- this helps me have more confidence in the Ovidrel. We did have sex the night of the trigger, and the afternoon of the IUI, so I hope we had plenty of swimmers to catch that one little egg. And Kittymommy, I'm so sorry about the loss of your triplets. I wish you the best of luck with whatever you choose to do next.
